Just take a look!

If you want to have a nice trip out of your country, here are some great options!

Cuatro Cienegas Valley, Coahuila, Mexico

Considered one of the most important mexican environmental protected areas, Cuatro Cienegas has flora and fauna found nowhere else in the whole world. Famous for its 4 main springs (2 of them with a 21 C average), is a must when visiting Mexico.

Can you believe this is in the very middle of the desert?

One of the lagunes at Cuatro Cienegas, Las Playitas. This lagune is fed from the underground. Millions of years ago, this area was covered by the Tetis Sea; its water is now underground, and is the actual water that you can find in the several springs and lagunes at Cuatro Cienegas.

Zone of Silence, Coahuila, Mexico

The Zone of Silence is located in north eastern Mexico, between the parallels 26 and 28. It's named the Zone of Silence because radio signals can't be reached in the normal way because of a really strong magnetic force. It can be compared with places as the Bermuda Triangle because of its unique characteristics. You shouldn't leave Mexico without stepping on this mysterious area!

Morava river floodplain, Slovakia

Wetlands are extremely important as among other things they reduce flooding by holding large amounts of water and releasing it slowly. In addition, the abundance of water attracts wildlife. This floodplain is one of the best preserved and largest complexes of wet meadows in Central Europe. When I visited this place in the summer of 2004, the air was thronged in birds and insects, the plants were exploding with life. Even though it was a sunny day the trees were dripping water on to me. Ekocentrum DAPHNE in Bratislava is involved in the protection of this area. Follow their informational trails and discover more about this area from their info panels.

Lednice-Valtice Area, Czech Republic

This area is the only actual landscape to be protected under the UNESCO World Heritage Site list. It is located in the south-eastern Czech Republic on the border with Austria. There are many environmental wonders here, preserved within nature reserves. The most important of these are the Lednice ponds, sanctuaries for rare bird species and valuable wetlands whose international importance places them under the protection of the Ramsar Convention. The most important people to have left their mark on the land over the past centuries were the Liechtenstein family. They built and rebuilt castles, chateaux, and pavilions, founded parks and gardens, and joined it all together with a system of alees, viewpoints, and overlooks into a whole sculpted landscape which spreads out over 200 square kilometres. As well as the impressive chateaux in Lednice and Valtice, look out for the follies and collonades built into the landscape in forests and on hilltops. Try the best Czech wines in the National Salon of Czech Wines under Valtice chateau.

Borjomi-Kharagauli National Park, Georgia

The Borjomi-Kharagauli National Park is located in central Georgia and is part of the lesser Caucasus. The park is one of the largest in Europe - it covers more than 76,000 hectares of native forest and sub-alpine and alpine meadows, home to rare species of flora and fauna.
In 1862, the brother of ruling Russian Emperor Mikhail Romanoff was appointed Viceroy of the Russian Empire to Transcaucasia. He was greatly impressed by the beauty of the Borjomi Gorge and decided to build a summer residence there. In 1871, King Alexander II presented his brother with the whole of the Borjomi Gorge. Soon, Mikhail Romanoff fenced in a large part of the forest and forbade the felling of the trees and hunting without permission. After more than a century of the country’s turbulent history, the implementers of the Borjomi-Kharagauli used the territory established by Mikhail Romanoff as the basis for the first national park in the Caucasus. 1995 Borjomi-Kharagauli National Park was created with the support of the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) and the German Government and was officially opened in 2001. Today Borjomi is one of the most popular resorts of Georgia, remarkable for its mineral waters, unique nature and abundance of historical monuments.
